Flashes of Hope | Livermore Portrait Photography

Each summer, I have the honor of working with two amazing organizations: Flashes of Hope & The Taylor Family Foundation. According to statistics, more than 40,000 children children undergo treatment for cancer each year; each day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer; the average age of children diagnosed is 6; cancer is the leading disease killer of children, yet childhood cancer receives only 4% of federal funding for research.

Flashes of Hope, founded in 2001 by the parents of a child with cancer, raises funds to accelerate a cure for childhood cancer and honors the life and memory of each individual by photographing each child and his / her family. This volunteer driven organization has chapters in 55 cities and has photographed 40K+ children over the years.

The Taylor Family Foundation was started in 1990 by Barry & Elaine Taylor in order to preserve the wellness and enhance the quality of life for children living with life-threatening and chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities and at-risk youth. Based in the beautiful hills of Livermore, CA, The Taylor Family Foundation hosts over 30 camp sessions throughout the year at no charge, providing therapeutic recreation and specialized support to thousands of families.

After losing a few loved ones to the harsh realities of cancer this year, I was especially blessed to spend some time with these families. Through capturing these photographs, we are able to honor the courage and strength of each child, capture lasting memories, and raise awareness for childhood cancer. Please let me know if you'd like to get involved!
